The fun continues with Barsana’s Lathmar Holi, when males from surrounding cities, mainly Mathura, travel to witness the unique practice of being thrashed with sticks by women, depicting Radha and the gopis’ humorous vengeance against Lord Krishna’s mischievous activities. The next day, the scene moves to Nandgaon, where men tease the women playfully, who in turn respond to their advances by beating them with sticks and trying to drive them out. When unfortunate people are discovered by males, they are forced to dress in women’s clothing and perform public dances. The residents of Barsana and Nandgaon celebrate this entertaining custom each year.

Phool wali Holi at Banke Bihari Temple

Phool means flower and the basic meaning of the festival is that instead of using dry and wet colours, they play Holi with flowers. It occurs on Ekadashi, the day before Holi, at the Banke Bihar Temple in Vrindavan. The temple’s gates open around 4 p.m., and priests shower devotees with colourful flowers. Huranga Game at Dauji Temple

Our Holi tour culminates with the traditional Huranga game at the Dauji Temple near Mathura.
